  • Is it possible to downgrade my membership?

    We know circumstances can change which may lead to you wanting to downgrade your membership but we encourage you to talk to us first so we can help in any way we can. You may lose the professional recognition you've worked hard to get so contact the team at info@iema.net to talk to us.

  • How do I know which membership grade is right for me?

    IEMA's membership grades are competency based. You can find a handy tool here and we'll help you in the right direction. You will need to have a look through the competencies required for your recommended grades and align them to your experience, skills and knowledge to identify which is most suitable for you.

  • What are the steps involved in gaining Full membership (MIEMA)?

    All the details of Full membership are available here. In summary, you will need to submit a written paper and then have an online peer-review interview with two Full CEnv assessors, to assess whether you demonstrate the competencies of an IEMA Full member (and/or CEnv).

  • Am I able to change my membership grade?

    If you feel you have developed your skills, knowledge and experience meaning you are eligible for another grade of membership, you will be able to apply online to take your Next Steps.

  • What are the entry requirements for membership?

    Each grade of membership will have a different entry requirements and eligibility criteria. To find out the requirements for you, take a look at the membership page for your chosen grade here.

  • What membership grade should I choose if I want to pursue Chartered Environmentalist?

    If you are working in a role which is largely focused on environment, the dual accreditation of Full membership and Chartered Environmentalist (MIEMA CEnv) may be the best route for you.

    If, at the time, you don't feel you are ready to apply for MIEMA CEnv in the first instance then you could consider starting with Practitioner whilst you prepare yourself for MIEMA CEnv, or even Associate membership if you are just starting out your professional journey.

Upgrading

  • Am I at the right membership level or should I upgrade to the next level up?

    This naturally depends on what level you are at and the level of experience you have gained thus far. As you develop in your career, you should aim to upgrade your IEMA membership to reflect your level of competence and knowledge.

    One typical upgrade scenario is when a Student member graduates from their degree, they should check their eligibility against Graduate membership. Take a more detailed look at our membership grades and complete three simple titles to find out which membership grade is right for you. You can also view the competency requirements for each grade via our online Sustainability Skills Map.

  • Can I upgrade if my membership has lapsed?

    You can apply online for a new grade if you have progressed professionally since leaving your IEMA membership.

    If you are unsure of which grade is right for you, we would encourage you to contact our Membership and Standards Team via email or on 01522 540069 to talk through your options.

  • How do I submit my written submission for Practitioner or Full membership?

    Full details will be provided to you by our Membership and Standards Team upon application, but to help you prepare, the following templates will be required (please note these cannot be submitted until an online application has been made):

    • For Practitioner templates please view under 'Your Assessment Documents'
    • For Full membership please view under '2 - Written Submission'
  • Are there any rules or restrictions about upgrading twice in a short period of time?

    There are no restrictions; you can upgrade as many times as you wish. Please be aware however that you will be expected to pay the upgrade fee for each upgrade application. You can skip grades if you are planning to upgrade multiple times in a short space of time. Please also note that you will be required to maintain your membership subscription when it becomes due for renewal, even if you are in the process of upgrading. Upgrade fees are one-off payments which do not cover the cost of a membership renewal.

  • How long do I have to complete my submission for a Practitioner or Full membership application?

    For Practitioner, you will have 3 months to submit your written assessment of competence after successfully completing the entry exam or the Certificate in Environmental Management course (unless you are entitled to a fast-track application).

    For Full, you have 4 weeks to complete your written submission and submit this with the supporting documents.

  • What should I include in my Practitioner application case studies demonstrating my knowledge of competencies?

Fees

  • How much does it cost to upgrade or renew my membership?

    Our latest membership fees are all available here, including a breakdown on individual prices to apply, upgrade and renew your membership.

  • When do the application fees need to be paid for a membership upgrade?

    Payment is required at the point you complete your online upgrade application.

  • How much will membership with IEMA cost me?

    There are different fees to join, upgrade and renew. To find out what membership would cost you, please look at our online fees page here.

  • I have been invoiced for renewal of my existing membership, however, I recently completed the Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management which included an upgrade to an Associate membership within the course fee.

  • My renewal fee is higher than I was expecting. Has this increased?

    Our fees are subject to change every year in line with an annual price review and increase. Our current fees are available here.

  • Can I pay my renewal fees on a monthly basis?

    Membership of IEMA across all of our grades and access to member services is conditional upon the payment of the appropriate membership fee. All fees are displayed on our website. The fees quoted are for individual membership only. You may make a one-off payment for a year’s membership by credit or debit card or an annual direct debit payment

Payments

  • What happens if I'm late paying my renewal?

    IEMA's renewal process takes 12 weeks from your renewal date before we would automatically cancel your membership. Your membership will automatically cancel if payment is not received within this period but you can come back to us at any time. 

  • Will I get a receipt for my payment?

    Yes, for all payments made over the phone or online, you will receive an instant receipt by email. For payments made by bank transfer, your receipt will be sent the next working day and for direct debit payments, a receipt will be sent to you once IEMA receive the funds.

Requests to pay

  • How do I pay for my membership online?

    Log into your MyIEMA area using your membership number, click on the 'Payments' tab. You can then see any due invoices and proceed to pay them by clicking the pay and then follow the onscreen instructions to pay an outstanding invoice by card.

  • Can I make a card payment over the phone?

    Yes. Contact our Membership and Standards Team on +44 (0) 1522 540069 and be sure to you have your membership number to hand.

  • How can I get a copy of my invoice for payment?

    By logging into MyIEMA you will be able to select 'Payments' and download a copy of any invoices you have.

  • Are you able to change the date of my invoice?

    Unfortunately not as the invoice date reflects the start date of your membership, which is when payment is due. Your receipt will confirm the date of payment.

  • Where do I pay to renew my membership?

    Renewal payments can either be made online through your MyIEMA area via the 'Payments' tab; over the phone by calling the Membership and Standards Team on +44 (00 1522 540069; or by BACS. For BACS payments, IEMA's bank details are located at the bottom of your renewal invoice, and your membership number must be used as the payment reference.

  • Which payment methods do you accept?

    Payments can be made by through an automatic direct debit, or by card (we accept all card types). You can also renew an existing membership via bank transfer (BACS), details for this are found at the bottom of your invoice.

  • Is it possible to change the date of my direct debit?

    It may not always be possible to change the date of your direct debit as this is automatically set as the start date of your membership. If you need this date moving, please contact our Membership and Standards Team on +44 (0) 1522 540069.

  • Can IEMA invoice my employer for my membership payment?

    Whilst we can't directly invoice your employer for your membership due to data protection, you are able to change your invoice address to your employer's address. If your employer is able to confirm your membership number and invoice number, they are able to make the payment on your behalf.

Invoice

  • Can you send me an invoice for my membership renewal?

    You can download a copy of your invoice by logging into MyIEMA on the IEMA website. Alternatively, contact our Membership and Standards Team at info@iema.net.

Payment

  • Can I claim tax relief for my IEMA membership?

    You can claim tax relief on:

    • Annual subscriptions you pay to approved professional bodies or learned societies if being a member of that body or society is relevant to your job

    As IEMA appears on the ‘Approved professional organisations and learned societies (list3)’ then subscriptions taken up are deductible for tax purposes.

    1. Tax deductible for employers – Where employers pay for the subscription direct or via re-imbursement, the subscription is accounted for as a tax-deductible expense through the business’ Profit and Loss account.
    1. No P11D implication for individuals if paid by employer – If paid for on behalf of employees, the employer will not need to report on a P11D as the organisation (IEMA) is included in ‘list 3’.
    1. Tax deductible for individuals – If paid for individually and not re-imbursed by an employer, the individual can claim the subscription as a tax-deductible expense.
    1. How individuals can get Tax Relief if paying personally – To claim relief:
    • If submitting an annual Self-Assessment Tax Return, the subscription expense should be entered under the Employments section – Expenses -Box 19: Professional Fees and Subscriptions
    • If not submitting an annual Self-Assessment Tax Return, the subscription expense can be claimed online through your individual Government Gateway Account.

  • Can I arrange a bank transfer to reinstate my membership?

    Yes - email us at info@iema.net or phone us on +44 (0)1522 540069 and we will provide the details you need to arrange a bank transfer. Please be aware that for some grades, a CPD submission may be required before reinstatement is allowed. Full details can be found here.

  • I would like to reinstate my membership but the link doesn't seem to be working.

    You may need to reapply, but it will depend on your previous membership level and how long you have been away from us. You can find all the details about reinstatement here.

MyIEMA

  • How do I access MyIEMA?

    If you do not already have one, you will first need to register for an account here.

    You will need to use the email address you registered with to log in.

  • I previously started applying for an IEMA membership but didn't complete my application. Can I resume or do I have to restart?

    Unfortunately if you do not complete an application for membership, we do not store this and you would be required to start your application again.

  • I have requested a password reset for my MyIEMA account but the link on the email says that it has expired.

    Try requesting another password reset link. If this still doesn't work, please contact our Membership and Standards Team at info@iema.net

  • What should I do if I receive an online payment error?

    IEMA utilises Stripe to accept payments via card. Should there be an issue with payment, you would receive an error code or reason. You can see what these error codes mean on Stripe's help page here.

    Alternatively, contact our Finance Team on +44 (0) 1522 540069 and they will do their best to help you.

  • I am unable to log in to my MyIEMA account.

    If you are unable to log in then there may be an issue with your log-in details. To reset your password click the 'Forgotten password?' link on the log in page and you will be sent an email to set up a new password. If this doesn't work, please contact our Membership and Standards Team at info@iema.net

  • I have requested a password reset for my MyIEMA account but have not received an email with a reset link

    Make sure you have checked all your inboxes including your spam/junk folders. If you are still confident that you haven't received the email, please contact our Membership and Standards Team at info@iema.net

Passwords

  • Please can you reset my password?

    If you go to the login screen and click Forgotten password? you should be able to request a password reset link to be sent to your email address. We would recommend that you change your password this way, but if this does not work then please email info@iema.net and we will help you.

  • I can't remember my password or email address, so I can't request a password reset.

    You can also request a password reset using your membership number. If you can't remember that either, email us at info@iema.netor phone us on +44 (0)1522 540069.

  • I do not have a password and cannot log in.

    When you register on our website, you will be required to create a password after verifying your email address.

    If you have forgotten your password, then you can request a password reset on the login screen by clicking the Forgotten Password link.

Updating Details

  • I accidentally provided the wrong email address with my application. How can I correct this?

    Please send details of the email address with which you applied and the one which you would like to be attached to the account instead, to info@iema.net and we will change this for you.

  • Can you change the email address on my account to a new one?

    Yes, send your old email address and the new one to our Membership and Standards Team at info@iema.net and we can update this for you.

  • The email address attached to my MyIEMA account is my old work email address and I cannot seem to get access to my account. What should I do?

    Please send details of your old email address and the new one which should be applied to the account to info@iema.net. We will update your account for you.

Joining

  • How can I become a member?

    Once you've chosen your preferred grade of membership you will need to complete your online registration form. Depending on your grade, you may need to sit an exam, submit a written assessment and/or have a peer-to-peer interview with our Assessors.

  • I would like to become an IEMA member but I do not know which membership grade is right for me.

    You can take a look at all of our membership grades here. Additionally, we have created a tool to help you determine which grade may be suitable for you here. If you still don't know what grade is right for you, email us at info@iema.net or phone us on +44 (0)1522 540069 to discuss it.

  • I've applied for membership but my membership grade is showing as a different grade. What does this mean?

    If you're applying for a grade which requires you to complete an exam, assessment and/or interview before gaining your professional status, you will be recognised as an either an Affiliate Member, or the grade you were when you first applied for a new grade. This is because you are currently working towards your new membership grade. Upon successful completion of your assessment(s) or exam, your status will change within 5 working days after receiving your final results confirmation.

Reinstatement

  • How can I re-join IEMA?

    There are different requirements for each membership grade. We recommend having a look through the information here and then getting in touch with the Membership and Standards Team at info@iema.net or submitting an online application.

  • Can I arrange a bank transfer to reinstate my membership?

  • Am I exempt from taking the exam for a particular membership level because of my prior experience and/or qualifications?

    If you can evidence that you meet a condition below then you will be exempt from the relevant exam process as stated:

    • Exemption from the Practitioner online exam element if you have completed an IEMA Approved Degree or the IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management course within the past 3 years (you will then only need to undertake the Assessment of Competence case study assignment). When you apply, you'll need to select that you are eligible to fast-track and upload a valid copy of your relevant degree certificate.
    • Exemption from the Associate online exam only if you have completed the IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management course within the past 3 years. When you apply, you'll need to select that you are eligible to fast-track and upload a valid copy of your course certificate.

Application

You should contact the Membership and Standards Team to arrange your resit and pay any fees. You can contact them either by telephone on +44 (0) 1522 540069, or via email on info@iema.net.

    Alternatively, if your examination was arranged via a Training Partner, you would need to contact them directly to arrange your examination resit.

  • Can I re-schedule a booked exam?

    Yes, please email the Membership and Standards Team at info@iema.net to let us know.

  • If I failed an exam twice, can I re-sit if I was close to passing?

    There is no limit on how many times you can resit your exam - your first resit will be offered to you free of charge. Resits after that incur a charge of £55.50 per attempt.

Next Steps

  • When will I receive my certificate?

    For Associate exams, you will receive your membership e-certificate within 6 weeks after the month in which you passed your exam. For Practitioner, Full or Fellow assessments, you will receive your membership e-certificate up to 4 weeks after your final results have been issued to you.

  • What will happen to my Student membership once I graduate?

    When you apply for Student membership you are asked to provide an expected graduation date. You will be contacted prior to this date to notify you of your next steps - you can upgrade to GradIEMA or AIEMA, depending on your eligibility. You will need to check the entry requirements and the membership standard to confirm which grade you are eligible for. If you chose not to upgrade, your membership grade will change to Affiliate at your next renewal.

  • I've passed my exam - when will my application status be changed on the IEMA website?

    For Practitioner candidates, once your exam window has closed it will take up to 5 working days for us to email you the information on the next steps of your application.

    For Associate candidates, once you have passed your exam it will take up to 5 working days for your status to update on the website.

IEMA Connect

  • I am registered for the conference but can't find my verification code?

    Closer to the event, please visit the conference website and input your full name and email, here you will be sent a new verification code. Verification codes expire after 24 hours so you will need to request a new one if you are unable to login. If you do not receive your code, please contact events@iema.net

  • Can I book meetings?

    Yes, you can book 30 minute meetings with attendees and 15 minute meetings with exhibitors. Login to the conference website and access the homepage, select 'Schedule appointment' underneath 'Looking to network' and book meetings with exhibitors and attendees. You can also do this via the 'Attendees' page on the conference website and via the Exhibitor page on the site.

  • I’m having trouble logging into the conference website, what do I do?

    Clear your cache: Your device may be storing data that's interfering with the page you're trying to load. Follow these steps to clear your browser's cache.

    1. First you'll need to determine which browser you're using.
    2. Follow the relevant link for more detailed instructions on how to clear your cache: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Safari.
    3. Refresh the page in your browser.
    4. Repeat the steps you took prior to receiving the instance ID.

  • How do I find the page to modify or cancel my registration?

    Make sure you are logged into iema.net, if you aren't please log in first. Then head to the IEMA Connect page: https://www.iema.net/events/iema-connect and click on 'register now'. This will bring up your registration confirmation. Scroll down to the bottom and click on 'modify registration' or 'cancel registration'. Follow the process to modify or cancel registration.

  • I am not a member and I have a discount code, can I use this?

    Yes, please submit this when completing the application form.

  • Do I need to pay to attend?

    No, the conference is free to all IEMA members. If you are not an IEMA member, you will need to follow the "Not yet, Join IEMA" route to pay and gain access.

  • Do I need to disclose my interests when completing the registration form?

    We recommend completing this section as it will allow you to meet with peers with similar interests. You can login and amend your registration details at a later date if you wish.

  • How do I register for conference sessions?

    When registering for the conference, you will have access to 'add' sessions to your agenda. You can also edit these via the 'modify your registration' feature or by logging in to the conference website and 'adding' sessions to your agenda.

  • Why do I need to be a member to attend IEMA Connect?

    This conference is exclusive to members' only, please click "Not yet, Join IEMA" and follow your preferred join route to gain access to IEMAs content, resources and access to the IEMA Connect conference.

  • I'm interested in sponsorship, what should I do?

  • I am an IEMA member but my colleague is not, can they still attend?

    This conference is a members' only event, we recommend following the Join IEMA route to gain access to IEMAs content, resources and support alongside the IEMA Connect conference speaker and networking programme. Please do not share your join link as this is a unique code.

  • How do I sign up for IEMA Connect?

    Are you an existing IEMA member? If yes, click "Yes, login to IEMA" and login with your IEMA membership details. From here, click Register Now and this will take you through to the IEMA Connect web page to finish your registration. Once complete, you will receive an automated email confirmation.You may log in at any point and change your registration answers.

    If you are already logged into MyIEMA, simply click Register Now and finish your registration on the conference web page.You may log in at any point and change your registration answers.

    If you are not an IEMA member, please select "Not yet, Join IEMA", here you will be taken through to register for IEMA membership. Once registration is complete, you will receive a confirmation email from IEMA. Please use the details in this email to login to myiema.net and once logged in, select Register Now to complete the conference registration process. Once complete, you will receive a confirmation email. You may log in at any point and change your registration answers.

  • Do I need to input my country on the registration form?

    Yes, this is important to ensure that the agenda displays in the correct time zone for you.

  • How do I access the conference website?

    The conference website is the IEMA Connect web page where you will watch the conference, join chats and discussions and meet with exhibitors. You will have been sent a join link to access the conference. For any issues, please contact events@iema.net

  • I'm currently logged in and having issues registering for IEMA Connect, what do I do?

    Please log out, clear your cookies and try again, this should now work.

    Alternatively, please open an incognito window on your internet browser and go to www.iema.net/events/iema-connect then follow the registration route to register.

  • I work for a company who is an IEMA Corporate Partner, do I still need to join as an individual member to take part in IEMA Connect?

    Yes, however your employer will have a 50% join discount for Affiliate membership and a 25% join discount for professional grades. This discounts only apply to new applications or upgrades. Please speak to your IEMA contact within your organisation to access this discount. If you are not sure who your IEMA contact is, please email corporate@iema.net.

  • What platform will the conference take place on?

    The conference platform is hosted via Cvent and our sessions are broadcast onto the platform using Zoom. During the conference, all you will need to do is click the join link from your emails and you will be able to access the conference site and join sessions. The platform is entirely web-based so you will not need to install anything.

  • Can I watch IEMA Connect on multiple devices?

    Unfortunately not, the unique verification code you receive will only work on one device.

  • Can I book meetings with my peers during IEMA Connect?

    Yes, this will all be done via the attendee hub which will launch closer to the conference date. Through the hub, you will be able to schedule meetings, live chat and match with your peers based on similar interests.

  • What is Connect about?

    The conference will feature practical content for environment and sustainability professionals around the world, giving attendees the chance to engage with keynotes, panel discussions and workshops led by industry experts. Our new conference platform will allow members to network with a global audience of professionals and engage through live chat, collaborative sessions, Q&A, polls and one-to-one meetings, helping attendees to share best practice and challenges, discuss legislative updates and enhance their CPD.

  • Will the conference be recorded?

    We will endeavour to record most sessions to share back to IEMA members post-event but please don't rely on there being a recording.

  • What is the IEMA Connect attendee hub?

    The attendee hub is a space on the IEMA Connect web page where you will be able to connect with peers based on your interests, chat, video call and schedule meetings before during and after the conference. The attendee hub will open closer to the Conference date and further details will follow via email.

  • Where is my join link for IEMA Connect?

    Closer to the event date you will receive an email with a join link to the conference website, please use this link to login throughout the conference, add and watch sessions. For any issues, please contact events@iema.net

Subscriptions

  • What kind of emails will I get?

    The emails you will receive depend on the subscription you have chosen. You can read the description of each option on the subscription page.

  • How will IEMA use this information?

    IEMA will use this information to send you the information that you want to hear about.

  • What will happen if you choose not to subscribe to any?

    You will not receive any emails regarding the types of communication shown on the subscription page. However, you will still receive emails from IEMA that concern your membership.

  • What is a Subscription page?

    A Subscription page is the central location where our members can choose what type of communication they want to receive from IEMA. This allows you more control over the information IEMA sends to you.

  • Can I change my Subscription in the future?

    Yes, you have total control over your email preference, and you can change them at any time. If you wish to change them, you can head over to MyIEMA and select the privacy tab.   • What is CPD?

    Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the structured vocational learning any professional carries out to keep their knowledge, skills and capabilities up to date. It is learning that shapes and boosts our careers and helps maintain competence when laws, regulations, standards and practice change, or your career path alters course.

    Your learning – the CPD activities you undertake each year – can include formal training courses but also many free and easy-to-access opportunities like reading and writing relevant books, reports and articles, webinars, workshops, conferences and site visits, coaching, and anything else which helps you learn and develop.

    Planning, tracking and evidencing your learning is simple yet very important – it helps you set goals, find learning activities that will help you achieve them and keep a record of what you have learned.

  • How much CPD should I do?

    You should aim to log at least 30 hours’ worth of activities every year to keep your knowledge current and your development on track.

    Be aware that if you have set yourself some particularly challenging goals, then you may need to log more than 30 hours in order to achieve them. Then again there may be times where it’s appropriate to log less than 30 hours, for example if you are taking a career break, are on parental leave, or if you are on long term sick leave. You can discuss this with our team if any of these situations apply to you.

  • Why is setting CPD goals important?

    Setting learning and development goals is a crucial part of CPD. It helps you establish what you want to achieve so you can undertake learning that will help you get there.

    When starting your annual CPD plan, you should think about where you are in your career now, and what you want to achieve over the coming year. Are you aiming to upgrade your membership and therefore need to work on some core competencies? Are you planning to take on new responsibilities at work and need to develop some new skills? Which sections of the IEMA Skills Map do you feel you could strengthen? Asking yourself these questions will help you to plot clear and achievable goals, which in turn will guide what CPD activities you need to do and record over the coming year.

    You can also include shorter term objectives, for example, having a chat with your manager about taking on a new responsibility, or reading up on some new legislation.

  • When do I need to do CPD?

    You should carry out learning and development all year round and record it as you go, so you can keep on top of the process. However, as IEMA’s CPD year runs from 1st January to 31st December, you should begin each calendar year by setting your goals. From there you should spend around 30 hours over the year doing learning and development activities that support your goals. You should then spend some time at the end of each year reflecting on your learning before you begin again by goal setting in January.

    Each quarter, we call in a sample of CPD records from across the membership base. We select a random sample of 1% from each professional membership grade, from Associate through to Full and Specialist Registers. If you are selected, you will have one month to prepare and submit your CPD record which you can either log in the CPD area of the MyIEMA portal, or if you have already started logging your CPD in the word template, you can submit this to us.

  • How do I access the CPD tool?

    To access the CPD tool, login to MyIEMA using your usual login details and locate the CPD button on the left-hand menu.

    The CPD tool is mobile and tablet friendly so you can access it from wherever you are (as long as you have an internet connection), and even update your CPD activities ‘on the go’.

  • What happens if I am selected to submit my CPD and I don’t do it?

    If your CPD record is not received after the IEMA Professional Standards team has sent notification and taken reasonable steps to contact you, then this may result in a referral to the Professional Standards Committee. In some cases, it may result in the downgrade of membership to Affiliate.

  • What happens if my CPD records are assessed as not having met IEMA requirements?

    If your CPD record does not meet IEMA’s requirements, you will be given the opportunity to revise and re-submit your CPD record.

    Should a second submission still fail to meet IEMA’s requirements, this may result in a referral to the Professional Standards Committee. In some cases, it may result in the downgrade of membership to Affiliate.

  • I hold memberships with more than one body. Do I have to keep a separate IEMA CPD record using the portal?

    IEMA will accept CPD submissions in any form as long as your record is relevant, complete and sent to us on time. You can upload evidence or reports into the IEMA CPD tool within MyIEMA There is no need to transfer all this information activity by activity. You can attach supporting documents in a number of formats including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF.

  • Do I have to keep a CPD record?

    Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date CPD record is a mandatory requirement for all IEMA members with a professional grade (Graduate, Associate, Practitioner, Full and Fellow), and those with a Specialist Registration (Auditor, ESOS Lead Assessor, etc.). This is because each member has to demonstrate that they continue to meet the relevant professional standard after initial assessment for their status to remain valid.

    While it is not a requirement for Student and Affiliate members, it is prudent to plan and record all vocational learning, especially if you are aiming to achieve a professional grade in the future, or you are working to meet another career goal. Also, demonstrating a commitment to developing and upholding professional knowledge and competence is part of IEMA's Code of Professional Conduct, which all members must abide by.

  • Do I need to log my auditor/EIA/ESOS work to maintain my specialist registration?

    Yes. The Auditor, ESOS and EIA registers are practitioner registers, so you need to demonstrate that you continue to practice in the field to maintain your registration. It is a requirement for members holding registration to submit related CPD each year.

  • What counts as a CPD activity?

    Any activity that boosts your knowledge, understanding, range of skills, ability or influence contributes to your CPD. Some examples include:

    • Attending relevant events or conferences or listening to webinars;
    • Structured learning from formal training courses;
    • Informal and self-directed activities such as reading TRANSFORM magazine, journals, books, and other articles;
    • On-the-job learning and practical experience;
    • Supporting others to develop, either through formal or informal coaching and mentoring;
    • Voluntary activities.

  • How do I set goals and record my CPD?

    All IEMA members have free and continual access to our online CPD recording tool, which is accessed by logging into the MyIEMA portal.

    Through the CPD tool you can plan your development, record and update your log of CPD activities in real time, reflect on the value of each activity and monitor your progress at any time. The portal also helps you to gather evidence against the requirements for IEMA professional membership, or any other goal you are working towards.

  • If I am asked to submit my CPD as part of the sampling, how do I send it?

    IEMA can access the records you have logged within the MyIEMA portal. If you have been logging your CPD in the word template, you can send this to us. Details of where your evidence should be sent will be provided when you are informed that you have been selected to submit.

    Other CPD records and forms will be accepted. You will have the option to attach external records using the CPD tool within MyIEMA. But you must ensure all four areas listed below are present within your submission. For any areas not covered within your other CPD records, you can use the CPD tool within MyIEMA to fill in the blanks,

  • How will my CPD records be assessed?

    Our CPD assessors will be looking for clear evidence of these four areas:

    • Setting goals to meet your learning and developmental needs;
    • Action in the form of a variety of developmental activities, and attainment of 30 hours of CPD;
    • Evaluation of these completed activities and their impact;
    • Overall reflection on the progress made towards achieving the goals.

    The Professional Standards team will provide you written feedback detailing the outcome of the review. Within feedback, the CPD Assessor will provide you with insights and suggestions as you move toward completing your goals.

  • Is my information secure?

    Yes. All data and information you upload onto the portal is fully secure and is covered by IEMA’s Privacy Policy.

  • I have already started my CPD log using the old IEMA form. Do I need to start again?

    If you’ve already recorded some CPD activities using IEMA’s CPD word template, you can complete this and send this to us for review. Although, in future we will request that all members start logging their CPD via the CPD tool within MyIEMA.
