Dr Rajat Prakash Singhal is a Chemical Engineer with a master’s in environmental engineering. He is an Independent Environmental and Sustainability Consultant with 20 years of experience working on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment studies, developing hazardous and non-hazardous waste management plans, air and noise mitigation plans, zero wastewater discharge plans and greenhouse gas management strategies for International Banks, City Council and Industries based in India, Oman, Dubai, Denmark, Australia and Saudi Arabia. He worked full-time with companies such as Tata Consulting Engineers, Vedanta Resources, ERM India and Tebodin B.V. before becoming an independent environmental & sustainability consultant.

I am an aspiring development consultant enthusiastic about resolving developmental problems through research. Driven by my happiness in pursuing a social impact-based career, I am curious to learn multiple research skills related to sustainable development issues in the developing world. With a specialization in M.Sc. Environment and Development from the University of Leeds (UK) and training in B.Sc. Plant science from the University of Delhi (India), I am keen to explore sustainable livelihoods and stakeholder issues through policy research. At Leeds, my dissertation focused on understanding multi-stakeholder narratives related to an ambitious agricultural policy in Tanzania. My limited work experience also involves analysis of the National Clean Air Program at the NITI Aayog (New Delhi) and fieldwork research on Peoples Biodiversity Registers in four village blocks in the Himalayan and Eastern Ghats region of India.

I have completed my B-Tech in Civil Engineering and M-Tech in Environmental Engineering from reputable tertiary educational institutions. I have been in the Environmental sector for the last 6 years working at different firms as an environmental consultant, working my way up from a Graduate to my current role as a Senior Consultant at WSP India. I have been at WSP for the last 4 years where I have worked closely with the UK Sustainability and Climate Change (S&CC) and Environmental Due Diligence (EDD) teams.

I have worked in environmental services and sustainability for more than 12 years. What I like most about it is that working towards sustainability gives me energy and a sense of purpose. My career has taken many pivots – from marketing to operational roles involving hazardous waste management, contaminated soil remediation, and sustainability consulting. In 2018, I co-founded an environmental services company in Qatar and sold the business in 2020. I am now based in Mumbai, India, and work as an independent consultant. When not working, I enjoy reading, sports, and camping.

Engineering professional with 18+ years of experience in environmental engineering and management. Managed and directed departments with team members from various stakeholders, worked as a discipline lead responsible for staffing, profit management, project control and EMS management. Prepared and coordinated ESIA and supporting tools to assess environmental impacts, and to suggest best practices for sustainable development. As the environment and sustainability manager, successfully managed all phases of projects.

Having worked with leading waste management companies in India and abroad, the experience I gained is invaluable. I have been inspired by the complexities of nature and pursued a career focused on the environment.

Within ERM’s Indian business unit, Pranav leads the Audits, Regulatory Compliance, Product Stewardship, Occupational Hygiene, and Asbestos services.
